Seminars & Demonstrations

On Thursday, the Anasazi Free-Trappers host a series of seminars and demonstrations at the DEMO Area. These sessions cover a wide range of topics related to the pre-1840 fur trade era, from practical skills to historical knowledge. Seminars are a great way to learn from experienced buckskinners, pick up new skills, and deepen your connection to the era we celebrate.

Topics vary from year to year depending on who volunteers to teach, but past seminars and demonstrations have covered subjects such as: fire-starting with flint and steel, hide tanning and brain tanning, beadwork and quillwork, black powder safety and maintenance, period cooking and Dutch oven techniques, candle making, lead ball casting, moccasin making, rope making, primitive shelter construction, tomahawk and knife throwing techniques, flintknapping, horn work, and fur trade history.

Schedule

Specific times and seminar topics are posted on the sign at the DEMO Area on Thursday. Check the bulletin board at Traders’ Row for updates.
